“No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.” In modern times, this has become a subject hotly debated as to whether this is a blanket guarantee, or whether there exist circumstances in which some people should not be allowed to own or handle firearms. ![]() The Second Amendment makes clear that a “well-regulated militia” is necessary to securing a state of freedom from government oppression, and protects the people’s right to keep and bear arms. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
